When the weather is hot, you need something cold and refreshing that can quench your thirst and bring the temperature down.
These homemade orange juice ice lollies are incredibly easy to make and require very little preparation. The sugar syrup softens the sharpness of the orange juice and helps create a smoother texture once frozen, resulting in a deliciously refreshing orange ice lolly with a bright citrus flavour.
This recipe works perfectly with the carton orange juice that sits on the shelf in the supermarket, the one that states its made from concentrate. No need to splash out on the freshly squeezed, expensive chilled orange juice.
Whether you’re looking for a simple summer recipe, a nostalgic taste of childhood, or an easy activity to make with children and grandchildren, these orange juice ice lollies are a delightful reminder that the simplest recipes are often the most enjoyable. Pop a batch into the freezer and you’ll have a refreshing homemade treat ready whenever the sun makes an appearance.

What you’ll need:
These orange juice lollies need very little equipment.
- The most important thing is obviously the mould the form the lollies. I love these silicone moulds as they’re robust, easy to fill and most importantly, it’s easy to release the frozen lollies.
- To go with the lolly moulds, you’ll also need lolly sticks – wooden ones are traditional but you can also buy the silicone moulds with reusable plastic sticks
- A good jug for mixing the orange juice, water and sugar syrup and for pouring into the moulds.
- A small saucepan to make the sugar syrup.

Equipment
- 1 Lolly Mould 10 cavities
- 10 Lolly Sticks
- 1 1 Litre Jug
- 1 Small Saucepan
Ingredients
- 50 ml Water
- 50 grams Caster Sugar
- 600 ml Orange Juice
- 200 ml Water
Instructions
- Pour the 50ml water into the small saucepan and stir in the 50 grams of caster sugar. Place over o low heat until the sugar has dissolved. Leave to one side to cool for 10 minutes.
- In your 1 litre jug, add the 600ml orange juice, the water and the sugar syrup and mix well.
- Place the lolly mould onto a baking tray that will sit comfortably inside your freezer. Pour the mixture into the lolly mould, leaving a 5mm gap at the top to allow the mixture to expand during freezing.
- Put the lid onto the mould and insert the lolly sticks into each cavity.
- Place the mould into the freezer and leave for 6 hours to freeze.
- When they are well frozen, remove the lollies from the mould. This is easier if you wiggle the lolly while gently pulling.
- Store the lollies in a freezer proof container, placing each one on some baking parchment keeping them well separated. Add another layer of parchment and place more lollies on the top.
- Or you can wrap each one in cling film making them quick to grab.
